StoryDrop

Privacy

Last updated 2026-05-25.

StoryDrop is a small Whistler-based storybook tour for families. Because our product turns your child’s photo into personalised illustrations, we take their privacy seriously. This page tells you, in plain English, what we collect, what we do with it, and how to ask us to delete it.

If anything here is unclear, email us at team@getstorydrop.com.

What we collect

  • Your child’s photo— one selfie per child (“explorer”) that you upload when setting up the tour. We only ask for photos of the children doing the tour; no adults.
  • Your child’s first name — used to label their gallery and the SMS at the end.
  • Your account details — email address, and a mobile number if you opt in to the end-of-tour SMS.
  • Payment information— handled directly by Stripe. We don’t store your card details on our servers.
  • Your device’s location— only while you’re actively walking the tour, and only to detect when you arrive at each stop. We don’t track you between tours or in the background.
  • Basic technical info — the kind of information a typical website gets when you load a page (browser, IP, error logs). We use this to keep the site running, not to profile you.

How we use it

Your child’s photo is used for one purpose: to generate the personalised storybook images they receive at each stop of the tour. Each photo is sent to our image-generation provider together with the stop’s scene as a one-time request. We use a provider whose terms confirm they do not train their models on data sent through this kind of API call.

Your email is used to send your purchase receipt and (if you opt in) the gallery link at the end of the tour. Your mobile number is used only to deliver that one SMS. We don’t sell your information or hand it to advertisers.

Children’s data — the part that matters most

We treat photos of your children as the most sensitive information we hold. We never use them for marketing, share them with third parties beyond the generation pipeline described above, or post them publicly. The personalised images we generate from them belong to you. If you tag us on Instagram with one, that’s a choice you’re making voluntarily and we love it — but we never share your family’s images without explicit permission.

By using StoryDrop, you confirm that you’re the parent or legal guardian of each child whose photo you upload.

How long we keep things

  • Your gallery link— your family’s shareable gallery stays live at the URL we send you for 30 days after your tour. That window gives you time to save your favourites and share with relatives before the public link expires.
  • Your child’s photo and the generated storybook images— we retain a backup copy of tour photos for up to 12 months for service improvement and quality purposes. You can request deletion at any time and we’ll act on it (see below).
  • Account + payment records — kept as long as we need to provide the service and meet our legal / accounting obligations.
  • Location data during the tour— used in real time on your device. We don’t store your live coordinates on our servers.

Asking us to delete things

Email team@getstorydrop.com from the address you used to sign up and we’ll remove any of the items above on request. We’ll confirm by email when it’s done. If you’re a guardian asking about a child’s data, we’ll act on the same kind of request.

Other services we rely on

StoryDrop is a small product built on a few well-known providers. For the categories of service that touch your data, we choose providers based in Canada, the United States, or the EU, each with its own published privacy practices that we don’t control. The categories are:

  • Account & database hosting — stores your login and your tour records.
  • Image storage — stores the photo you upload and the storybook images we generate from it.
  • Image-generation API— creates the personalised storybook illustrations from your child’s photo plus the stop scene. We use a provider whose terms confirm they do not train their models on data sent through this kind of API call.
  • Payment processor — handles your card details directly so we never see them.
  • SMS delivery — sends the end-of-tour gallery link to your phone if you opted in.
  • Website hosting — serves this site to your browser.
  • Maps — renders the walking map during your tour.

If you’d like to know the specific provider used in a given category — for example, to check their privacy policy — email team@getstorydrop.com and we’ll tell you.

Changes to this page

StoryDrop is still a young product, so this page may change as we learn what families need from it. When we make a meaningful update, we’ll bump the “Last updated” date at the top.

Getting in touch

We’re an actual small team, not a faceless inbox. Write to us at team@getstorydrop.com with any questions about your family’s data — including about your kids’ photos specifically. We’ll get back to you.
